Surprise – it’s Sims 2

What was your first ever videogame?

Honestly, Sims 2 probably wasn’t the very first video game that I ever played, however, it was the first one I ever purchased with my own money.

I was in middle school; I believe it was the sixth grade. My school hosted a Daddy-Daughter Dance that I attended with my father. At the dance, we hung out with my friends, their parents, and played fun games. Like the competitive people we are, we blew everyone else out of the water, and I remember walking away with at least $50 in gift cards I could redeem anywhere I wanted.

Somehow, we ended up at Walmart after the dance; I think my mom sent us there on an errand. While my dad collected the things we needed, he let me browse the video game aisle. I do not remember what drew me towards it, but I left that store clutching two of my most prized possessions (until well after high school) – Sims 2 and Sims 2 Seasons.

Thus began my deep dedication to the entire Sims franchise; I still play it now and again in my 30s.

… Speaking of which, as the weather gets colder, I am starting to hear the basement calling me to come play for a solid 20 hours and forget what daylight feels like on my skin.
